Stand Your Ground / Guns
Shooting Gallery - Art Installation - Art Basel
Plastic Airsoft Pistols 1-1 Scale, Heavy Duty ABS and Metal Construction, Dimension Variable, 1-1
We put together this art installation during Art Basel Miami to demonstrate how simple it is to get away with murder in the United States -- the Trayvon Martin murder case is based on the Stand-Your-Ground law. To build awareness of this cause, we used a vintage arcade shooting gallery to simulate the act of murdering someone without paying the consequences, just like when playing an arcade or video game. To further demonstrate the concept, we projected a video onto a wall in front of the arcade (Shooting Gallery) depicting innocent victims falling to this devastating law affecting our community nationwide. Also, before entering the gallery we placed this plinth with a bunch of pistols placed on top as to reflect the unfathomable wide spread of guns in the country.
